Help with your cooker hood
We help with kitchen extractor enquiries, including a fan that will not start, faulty controls and lighting problems.
Common reasons to request a repair
- Fan not running
- Noisy extraction
- Lighting fault
- Control problems
Humming noises, rattling or a change in fan sound
Describe the sound already heard: humming with weak airflow, rattling or noise at one speed. Mention recent kitchen work and any change in extraction. Filters, mounting, ducting and components can affect the result; a noise does not identify a failed motor. Do not reach into the fan, remove covers or rerun it for a recording. Stop using a hood that smells burnt, overheats or trips the supply.
Lights, controls and filter reminders
Say whether only the lights have failed or the fan and controls also stop working. Some models have a lamp the user can replace; others need a technician to replace an LED unit. Check the exact handbook first. Copy any flashing symbol or letter. On some AEG hoods, C or F is a filter-care reminder. A warning does not prove a failed control board, and reset steps differ by model.
Replacement parts must match the hood
Send the full model from accessible paperwork or a label. For Bosch, include the complete E-Nr. Width or range name alone cannot identify replacement parts. The assessment establishes whether a lamp, switch, fan assembly or another part is needed. Its availability and cost are checked for that model before fitting is agreed.
Plan access to a built-in, chimney or island hood
For your cooker hood or extractor, give the mounting position and access height. Say whether it vents outside or recirculates air, if known. Mention a ceiling fitting, a hob with built-in extraction or a cabinet restricting access. Leave the appliance secured in place. Describe any recent kitchen changes without opening ducts or ceilings. New ducting, cabinet or electrical changes and replacement fitting need a separate agreement.
Manufacturer references: Bosch hood noise guidance, AEG lighting guidance, AEG filter reminders and Bosch model-based parts search. Follow the handbook for your own model; these references do not imply manufacturer authorisation for UKCDA.
What can you check safely?
Separate a fan that will not run from weak extraction, a failed lamp or unusual noise. Check the selected setting and handbook's normal filter-care instructions. Do not climb on a worktop, remove electrical covers or use the appliance with filters removed. Tell us whether it extracts outside or recirculates air.
Repair or replacement: what affects the decision?
The fault assessment, appliance condition, suitable parts and your preferences determine the options—not its age or an online error-code list alone. Compare the assessed repair total with the cost of a suitable replacement, including any separately quoted delivery, removal and fitting. Check any existing manufacturer cover before agreeing independent paid work. We explain the agreed charge and any proposed parts before fitting; a successful repair or first-visit completion cannot be promised.
For a replacement hood, provide the model, mounting style and whether the existing arrangement ducts outside or recirculates air. Describe access height without climbing or removing the hood. Mounting, cupboard, ducting and electrical changes need separate assessment.
Check the installation preparation for this appliance before arranging replacement fitting.
Cooker hood repair cost and visit preparation
For a Central London service address, the standard freestanding call-out is £90 plus parts. Integrated appliances of any brand start from £120 plus parts in Central London. Outside Central London, fixed call-out charges start from £75, depending on your appliance's make and model and whether it is freestanding, integrated or another appliance type. Our office confirms the service address and applicable amount by phone before arranging your visit. The agreed charge covers the first visit, repair labour and any return visit needed to fit parts for the same agreed repair. There is no extra labour or repeat call-out charge for that repair. Parts are priced separately and approved before fitting. Repair suitability depends on the model, fault, condition and parts availability.
Samsung, LG, Miele and Smeg have separate starting rates: from £90 plus parts outside Central London, or from £120 plus parts in Central London. Integrated appliances of any brand start from £120 plus parts in Central London. The office confirms the applicable charge.
A different fault, another appliance, installation, removal or alterations require a separately agreed scope and quote. Service terms and installation scope.

Your cooker hood repair questions
Can I enquire about a lighting-only fault?
Yes. Include the model and say whether the fan and controls still work. A lighting-only request does not establish whether the appliance uses a replaceable bulb or a fitted LED unit.
Can you quote replacement parts before assessing the hood?
The complete model helps check suitable parts, but a symptom does not identify what is needed. The office confirms the applicable call-out charge, and any required parts are quoted for approval before fitting. Availability and completion at the first visit cannot be promised.
Is ducting replacement included?
Not automatically. Describe the existing extraction arrangement and any changes required so the office can assess and quote them separately.
