This general fridge-freezer overview also explains common cooling symptoms in standalone appliances. Compartments, internal layout and the required assessment differ by model.
Read the written summary
A written overview of the symptoms and next step, not a word-for-word transcript.
Poor cooling, frost and unusual noises can involve different parts of the appliance. Airflow, seals, controls and the cooling system are possible assessment areas; a working light or display does not show that food is being stored safely.
Describe the affected compartment and model. Do not open electrical covers or interfere with the refrigeration system. Stop use for smoke, burning smells or electrical tripping, and follow current Food Standards Agency advice about chilled and frozen food.
Central London freestanding call-out £90; integrated from £120; other areas from £75. Parts extra.
For a Central London service address, the standard freestanding call-out is £90 plus parts. Integrated appliances of any brand start from £120 plus parts in Central London. Outside Central London, fixed call-out charges start from £75, depending on your appliance's make and model and whether it is freestanding, integrated or another appliance type. Our office confirms the service address and applicable amount by phone before arranging your visit. The agreed charge covers the first visit, repair labour and any return visit needed to fit parts for the same agreed repair. There is no extra labour or repeat call-out charge for that repair. Parts are priced separately and approved before fitting.
Samsung, LG, Miele and Smeg have separate starting rates: from £90 plus parts outside Central London, or from £120 plus parts in Central London. Integrated appliances of any brand start from £120 plus parts in Central London. The office confirms the applicable charge.
After diagnosis, the agreed call-out remains payable if you decide not to proceed with the repair or the required part is unavailable.
Parts, unsuccessful repairs and cover
If a replacement part does not resolve the fault, we do not charge you for that part. The agreed call-out still applies and is non-refundable after the diagnostic visit. This does not affect your statutory rights.
Parts-cover duration and conditions depend on the part and supplier. Ask us to confirm the cover for your repair, including any labour cover, before agreeing the work.
A different fault, another appliance, installation, removal or alterations require a separately agreed scope and quote. Service terms and installation scope.
Common symptom questions
What should I report if my freezer is warming up?
Describe the contents, exact alarm, visible frost, door closure and when the change began. Keep a target setting separate from any independent reading. Give the complete model and freezer layout. Running sounds or a silenced alarm do not establish safe storage.
These are general appliance observations, not a diagnosis for every brand or model. Read the safe-check guidance, compare repair and replacement considerations, or find your model reference safely.
Freezer not freezing, building up ice or sounding an alarm?
A temperature warning, a door that does not seal and heavy frost can have different causes. Tell us what changed during normal use; you do not need to identify a failed part before requesting an assessment.
The freezer runs, but the contents are getting softer
A running sound does not show that the freezer is reaching its operating temperature. Loading that obstructs internal airflow and a door that does not close properly are among the checks in Beko's freezer guidance. These observations do not establish a compressor or refrigerant fault.
Notice whether a drawer, basket or food packet prevents normal closure. If cooling remains poor, report the change and any temperature reading you already have. Do not remove a fan cover, reach behind the appliance or keep opening it to investigate.
Heavy frost: does the freezer require manual defrosting?
A manual-defrost freezer needs the routine care described in its handbook. A frost-free model has a different system: Beko explains its automatic frost-free feature. Check your model rather than assuming every freezer needs the same treatment.
Describe where ice is visible: around the lid or door, between drawers or on an interior wall. Mention if heavy ice returns after the handbook's normal care. Do not force a frozen drawer or use tools or applied heat to clear ice. Ask the office whether any preparation is needed; you do not need to dismantle or defrost the appliance just to make an enquiry.
An alarm or coloured light needs its model-specific meaning
A temperature warning is different from a fast-freeze indicator. For example, Beko distinguishes these indicators on applicable models, while warning that meanings vary. Copy the message or describe which light is showing. Silencing an alarm is not evidence that freezing has recovered.
A freezer in a garage or outbuilding
The permitted room-temperature range depends on the model. Beko's Freezer Guard guidance describes specific appliances intended for colder locations; this does not establish that every freezer is suitable for an unheated garage. Include the location, any recent change in conditions and the full model. Leave the appliance in position while suitability and access are checked.
Choose the right appliance and prepare access
This enquiry is for a separate domestic freezer. Send the complete model and product or serial reference from accessible paperwork or a visible label. Use the model-number guide if needed; do not move the freezer to find a hidden label.
- Chest freezer: mention its size and location, and whether the lid can open fully. Describe a lid or seal problem separately from loss of freezing.
- Upright or under-counter freezer: say whether the door and drawers open normally, and identify any area where frost or water is visible.
- Integrated freezer: mention the furniture door, restricted access and any recent hinge or kitchen work. Leave the furniture panel and freezer fitted in place.
- Combined fridge and freezer: use fridge freezer repairs and describe both compartments. For an appliance used only for chilled storage, use fridge repairs.
Commercial refrigeration is outside the current service scope. Specialist domestic models and the work required need individual confirmation.
Protecting the contents while a visit is arranged
We cannot promise to save the food or provide an immediate appointment. Keep the door or lid closed as much as possible and follow the Food Standards Agency's guidance if there has been a power cut. Its estimated storage times are not a new allowance starting when you notice a breakdown.
For food affected by warming, follow the FSA's freezing and defrosting advice and food-label instructions independently of the repair booking. Restored cooling cannot establish how food was stored while the fault developed.
What can you check safely?
Record which compartment is affected, the displayed setting or alarm, and whether the door closes normally. Keep ventilation openings unobstructed as instructed by the manufacturer, without moving a heavy or fitted appliance. Do not chip ice with tools or remove internal panels. Protect perishable food separately; a repair appointment does not establish that food remains safe.
Repair or replacement: what affects the decision?
The fault assessment, appliance condition, suitable parts and your preferences determine the options—not its age or an online error-code list alone. Compare the assessed repair total with the cost of a suitable replacement, including any separately quoted delivery, removal and fitting. Check any existing manufacturer cover before agreeing independent paid work. We explain the agreed charge and any proposed parts before fitting; a successful repair or first-visit completion cannot be promised.
If you are considering a replacement, compare the proposed model's dimensions, connections and manufacturer fitting requirements. An existing cabinet or connection does not establish compatibility. Removal, alterations and fitting are separate from the repair request.
Check the installation preparation for this appliance before arranging replacement fitting.
For an integrated replacement, include the furniture-door arrangement and cabinet opening as well as the proposed model. For a chest or upright replacement, mention the access route and available space. Ask separately about disconnection and removal of the old freezer.
Request a freezer repair assessment. Include the exact alarm and when it began; the office confirms the model, charge and appointment before a visit.
VISITS TO YOUR HOME OR RENTAL PROPERTY
Looking for freezer repair near you?
UKCDA takes domestic repair enquiries across London, every address inside the M25 and A282 loop, all of Surrey, and every DA and RM postcode. DA/RM addresses outside the motorway are included. These are service areas, not branches in each town.
Send your complete postcode and appliance model. For flats, include entry arrangements, stairs or lifts and parking restrictions. For rentals, add the visit contact and who can authorise the work. We check the address, suitable expertise and availability before confirming a visit.
Check your full postcode in our service-area checker. A coverage result does not reserve a visit or guarantee same-day attendance.

What happens after you send the enquiry?
- The office checks the details. We review the appliance, fault, address and access. A symptom alone cannot confirm a repair.
- Agree the visit and charge. We confirm the applicable fixed call-out and appointment. Check existing manufacturer or service-plan cover before arranging independent paid work.
- The assessment establishes the options. We quote any required parts for approval before fitting. First-visit completion depends on the fault and suitable parts; it is not guaranteed.
The form starts an enquiry, without taking payment or confirming a time slot. For urgent availability, call 07474 369490. Before agreeing the visit, ask about charges if repair is not possible and cover for the proposed work.

Manufacturer error-code guidance
Choose the exact brand, appliance and message. A code describes a detected condition; it does not confirm a failed part. Check the complete model against the linked manufacturer guidance. For an unlisted message, use “Find appliance help” above or send your model and question privately.
Grundig GFNEP5686PZ: E with a number
Model check: Grundig UK GFNEP5686PZ manual, printed EN/18 (PDF page 18), error-condition indicator. Manual uses generic compartment wording despite this being a freezer; confirm the actual display. No cross-model code mapping.
This manual associates E with numbered warnings with insufficient cooling or a sensor error. It does not give a component diagnosis for each number. Send the complete display and model for assessment.

Liebherr SGN(ef) 3036 freezer F0–F9
Model check: SGN(ef) 3036 freezer manual 7086438-00 only; no sensor diagnosis inferred.
For the Liebherr SGN(ef) 3036 freezer, this manual identifies F0 through F9 as fault warnings requiring service. It does not assign a failed component to each number. Record the exact code, model and serial number; protect stored food if cooling is unreliable.

Leave electrical covers and fitted components in place. Stop using an appliance that leaks, overheats, smells burnt or trips the electrics. UKCDA is independent; check any manufacturer guarantee before arranging a paid visit.
